You’ve hardly driven your Audi around Melbourne this year, and you’re nowhere near 10,000 miles since your last Audi oil change. But it’s been almost a year, and you’re not sure whether that counts.
It counts. We recommend maintenance service every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first, and your oil and filter change is part of it, so a year on the calendar makes you due even when the odometer says otherwise. The exact interval varies by model, model year, and mileage.
If you drive a lot, you’ll reach the mileage limit first. If you drive less, or the car sits, you’ll reach the 12-month limit first.
| What you notice | What it can suggest | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| You drive more than 10,000 miles a year | You’ll reach 10,000 miles before the 12-month limit, so mileage sets your schedule | Add your interval, 10,000 miles for most Audis, to the odometer reading on your last service receipt, and book before you reach that total |
| You drive fewer than 10,000 miles a year, for example 5,000 | The 12-month limit comes first, even though the mileage looks low | Book 12 months after the date of your last oil change |
| You mostly make short trips around town | The engine may not run long enough to warm up and burn off the moisture that collects in the oil | Don’t stretch past either limit, and book at whichever one you reach first |
| The car sits for weeks at a time, for example while you’re away for part of the year | Oil keeps aging while the car sits, so the 12-month limit still applies | Schedule it before you leave or right after you return, whichever is closer to the 12-month limit |
| You’re not sure when your last oil change was | You may already be past one of the limits | Look up the date and mileage on your last service record. If you can’t find it, say so when you schedule. |
Plug-in hybrids do, and all-electric Audis don’t. A plug-in hybrid has a gas engine, so it needs engine oil changes along with the rest of its regular maintenance. An all-electric Audi has no engine oil to change, but it still needs regular maintenance, and our Electric Vehicle Maintenance service covers that.
An occasional short delay is unlikely to cause immediate damage, and repeated late oil changes raise the risk of wear and costly repairs. Oil breaks down with time as well as miles, even in a car that sits parked.
As it ages, it loses its ability to protect the engine, and the additives that guard against acid and corrosion wear out. Badly degraded oil can also form sludge that blocks oil passages.
Your Audi’s oil requirement is a quality standard, and your engine and model year determine which one applies. A viscosity number on the bottle doesn’t confirm an oil meets that standard, because the same viscosity shows up under more than one Audi standard.
Oil also collects harmful particles as it circulates, which is part of why it’s changed along with the filter. We use Audi oils and filters made for your vehicle and match the oil to your engine and model year, so you don’t have to look up which standard applies. Every oil change here includes a new oil filter.
A red oil pressure warning means stop when it’s safe and call us or roadside assistance. A low oil level message is different: it calls for a check and a top-up soon.
Oil level is how much oil is in the engine, and oil pressure is whether that oil is circulating the way it should, so they are separate problems. Don’t drive on to see whether a red warning clears.
If the level keeps dropping between oil changes, schedule a check so we can find out why.
At Audi Melbourne Service Center, our factory-trained technicians use specialized tools to drain the old oil, replace the filter, and refill with Audi oil that meets the standard for your engine.
When your oil change is part of scheduled maintenance, the visit can also include inspections of the brakes, tires, lights, and underbody, a battery test, and a road test, and we reset the service reminder display. Your model, model year, and mileage decide the exact list.
You can schedule an Audi Melbourne oil change service online whenever you’re ready.
If getting the car here is a problem, we offer complimentary pickup and delivery within our service area, including Viera and Merritt Island. Choose home or office pickup when you book, and availability varies by appointment.
The price depends on your Audi and what the visit includes, and offers change, so check our service specials page for current offers before you book.
If you’d rather pay ahead, Audi Care prepaid maintenance packages cover scheduled maintenance at the intervals we recommend, and prepaying can save money compared with buying those services separately. Actual savings vary. Packages can be bought with a vehicle or later, as long as your vehicle meets the age and mileage requirements. If an inspection finds something that needs replacing, replacement parts and labor can cost extra.
